Letter from the editor
Dear members and friends of PASSJ
I regret to begin this editorial on a sour note; however, I will take sour over bitter, thinking about the sweet things that are yet to come. Like always I had contacted my good friend Bernice at the Park and Recreation office of Gloucester County sometime in February of 2008. After we took care of the dates I jokingly asked her if she was promising me a good weather on May 31st. She had a big laugh memory of which is still ringing in my ears. She said Mohammad that is not something that I can promise. I have been doing this for last few years but never asked this question, I don’t believe in superstition so I am not going to regret, may be it was better that way.
The alternate date, like always, was the following week. However, since the PASSJ President was out of the country, Board of Trustees discussed the matter and decided to cancel it and advise the Executive committee accordingly. The decision was based on the alternate date being too close to get people ready for the picnic and not enough time till Pakistan Day function to fix a proper date for the picnic.
Anyway, let us look forward to our big day coming up and hope to enjoy more than ever.
Sincerely
Mohammad Aslam Khan

Health Awareness Committee Update
The first meeting of the PASSJ Health Awareness Committee was very successful and a good number of people were present. Dr. Bodla's discussion about stroke was very informative. As I mentioned earlier in my email messages, "prevention is better than cure". Similarly, precaution, information and early detection, along with awareness of symptoms regarding an impending attack and actions required for dealing with such emergencies are as, or even more, important in saving lives. These are the topics that were discussed at the first meeting.
The second meeting was held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 11:30am at the Voorhees Mosque. The topic of discussion was lower back pain. While I sincerely hope nobody will ever face any such emergencies but we all know life is full of uncertainties and we should always be prepared for it.
